Direct Compression saves the pharma industry time and money – by enabling drug producers to bypass the wet granulation stages and instead utilize streamlined dry powder processing techniques. Direct compression is also an ideal continuous processing option.
Improved powder flow properties are key for successful direct compression processes. With this in mind, we have developed a proprietary Designed Particle Morphology technology, which is incorporated in our new direct compression grades of METHOCEL™ DC2 cellulose ethers. With METHOCEL™ DC2, pharmaceutical manufacturers of hypromellosebased controlled release (CR) matrices can enjoy the benefits of dry granulation production techniques like roller compaction and direct compression, which can reduce manufacturing costs by as much as 60 percent (compared to wet granulation with standard HPMC).
ETHOCEL™ resins are excellent granulation binders for dry processing, offering versatility in drug release rates and producing hard tablets with low friability. In small, effective amounts, ETHOCEL™ does not adversely affect tablet disintegration/dissolution rates. Fine particle (FP) grades can also offer improved processing conditions.
POLYOX™ performs well as a binder in direct compression systems. It often facilitates better flow and compaction properties than other binders. Its lubricity also assists tableting operations. This offers a system where a single excipient can offer both binding and rate-controlling properties.
