Delivering glossy, elegant coatings for easy-to-swallow tablets

In an increasingly complex and busy world, patients need pills that are easy to swallow and identify. Manufacturers seek to improve swallowability, create an easily-recognizable pill and protect their dosage form with a polymer film. Whether you are developing an immediate or controlled release drug, our polymer products provide high-quality film coatings that can be customized to meet a variety of formulation and performance requirements.

Film Coatings for a Variety of Formulations

For coating immediate release tablets, METHOCEL™ Premium LV products offer formulators an elegant, glossy coating that is printable, hypo-allergenic, non-tacky, and compatible with pigments and dyes. This allows manufacturers to create a colorful tablet, stamp a logo or engrave product information on the tablet core, for an easily-recognizable, branded drug.

As the tablet travels from the manufacturing site to the patient, METHOCEL™ helps maintain the mechanical integrity of the solid oral dosage form. The film coating works to prevent tablet dusting while protecting the active drug from exposure to light, moisture and atmospheric oxygen.

When the patient takes the tablet, METHOCEL™ is designed to make it slippery, improving swallowability and enhancing the consumer experience. The film coating also works to mask the unpleasant taste and odor of the active ingredient within the tablet, allowing for greater consumer acceptance.

Water insoluble ETHOCEL™ and Aquacoat® ECD is an excellent choice for coating controlled release drugs with barrier membranes. It provides a strong film with excellent adhesion that is odorless, tasteless, and has a high degree of stability to light and heat. Ethycellulose based products also adds gloss and shine to the tablet surface, while optimizing the film’s toughness to minimize any surface imperfections on the dosage form caused by handling.

Innovative Solutions, Ongoing Collaboration

At Nutrition & Biosciences, we are constantly innovating to provide our customers better products that save them time and money. Our METHOCEL™ VLV grade and ETHOCEL™ HP grade are excellent examples of our ongoing research with pharmaceutical coating technology. METHOCEL™ VLV is a low-viscosity product that leads to twice the solids concentration applied in half the time; ETHOCEL™ HP allows for solvent free dry powder coating processes to be completed at significantly reduced time and cost.

Whether your goal is to create a well-branded drug, better protect the mechanical integrity of your dosage form, or increase a tablet’s swallowability, we are eager to find your perfect coating solution. Let us collaborate with you to determine which of our high-quality ingredients align with your formulation needs, and help you provide your customers with drugs that are high-performing, aesthetically pleasing and easy to take.
